A Pause for Jazz
I've been trying to grade today, but I have to take a quick break to encourage you to tune in to some cool New Jass with Justin on Tuesdays from 9am to noon on university station KTUH (90.3 FM). You can audio stream online too if you catch this today.
Justin is in the great group New Jass Quartet, which plays on Tuesdays nights (9 or 10ish-2ish am?) at THIRTYNINEHOTEL in a cool Chinatown loft/ gallery space at 39 Hotel St. in Chinatown.
My other Hawaii favorite jazz group gr00ve.imProV.arTiSts featuring DeShannon Higa is also playing at THIRTYNINEHOTEL on Thursdays. He's also playing on Mondays at another Chinatown spot as Quadpod @ The Dragon Upstairs (1038 Nuuanu, above Hank's Cafe, 8:30pm-) TEL: 526-1411.
I have to update my online jazz guide one of these days. There are many more events at JAZZ MINDS (1661 Kapiolani Boulevard) and all over town. Jazz life in Honolulu is good.

Derek Pavia wrote another great article on one of Hawaii's royal jazz families. Check it out in the Honolulu Advertiser. He's written some great articles, which I'm sure have helped spread Honolulu's jazz scene.
